Mălâncrav has recently come to the public attention both in the country and abroad due to the visits of Prince Charles of Wales to the region.
His Highness has not chosen Mălâncrav by chance; placed between the hills, far from any main road, far from the noise and pollution of any town, Mălâncrav is one of the few Transylvanian villages with a numerous Saxon community still holding on to ancient traditions.
In order to preserve Mălâncrav’s natural and cultural heritage as well as possible, the Mihai Eminescu Trust Foundation carries out the project “The Self-sufficient Village” which gets locals involved in the renovation of houses, professional training and the promotion of crafts and traditions.
Thus, Mălâncrav becomes the ideal destination for nature lovers and culture amateurs; the three churches belonging to different religions stand as a proof of centuries of religious tolerance, the most remarkable being the stone-made basilica.
If you come to Mălâncrav you must not miss the Apafi Mansion built in the 15th century.
Did you know...?
At Mălâncrav they built a bricks and tiles oven while the orchard and the juice factory here yield an annual production of 32,000 litres of apple juice which is renowned in the entire country.
In the Mălâncrav orchard they grow various species of apples, pears, plums and walnuts.
