Regardless of the season, the Păltiniş mountain resort offers mountain lovers countless experiences. Only 32 km away from Sibiu, Păltiniş is located at the heart of the Cindrel Mountains surrounded by dense, fresh forests, spectacular mountain peaks and vast pastures.

Are you fond of mountain hikes? Then Păltiniş is your best bet, as it offers numerous hike trails. You do not know which to choose? How about a walk to the Bătrâna Summit? Besides the breath-taking landscape, you will also enjoy the fresh, cool mountain air. Once you get up there do not let yourself intimidated by the barking dogs and visit the nearby sheepfold - you are on to a unique experience!

Păltiniş also has a wide range of options for those fond of cycling, extreme sports or motor sports.

And at Păltiniş you will not get bored in winter, either: low to moderate difficulty ski trails, artificial snow, night lightning and even a snow fun park. The Păltiniş area is the perfect place for ski touring, precisely due to its gentle slopes and lack of avalanches.

You can’t ski? No problem, sleighing is also fun and there are countless options in the area. To parents who accompany their children to the ski school we suggest a relaxing walk to the centre of the resort.

Don’t forget to visit the Păltiniş hermitage which reminds visitors of the small churches from Maramureş. Immediately nearby lies the tomb of philosopher Constantin Noica. As you come towards the centre of the resort you shall see a part of the historic monument buildings erected in the early 20th century.

In the afternoon enjoy a hot tea on the trail or at a nearby pub. Take in the sunset in the Vălare area, where you have a stunning view of city of Sibiu and of the Făgăraş Mountains.

Did you know...?

Păltiniş is the first mountain resort of the Romanian Carpathians, inaugurated in 1894 but also the resort placed at the highest altitude (1442 m).

The architecture of the first chalets built here was inspired by those from the Austrian Tyrol.

In the early 20th century, the resort became famous not only in Transylvania but also beyond the Austrian-Hungarian borders, described as “the most beautiful place in the mountains to the east of Karolvy Vary…”
