Sibiu
“Our town will thrive and become world famous” - these were the words of Hermann the knight at the end of the 12th century, when he set up the small medieval burgh named Hermannsdorf. And Hermann was right, for his burgh soon became a dignified town whose fame travelled the world.
Nine centuries later, in the Daily Telegraph Adrian Bridge named Sibiu “one of the most beautiful” cities of Romanian, “a Transylvanian pearl”. Nowadays, Sibiu gladly welcomes its visitors, impatient to unravel its beauties.
Sibiu is a captivating city both due to its rich historic past and to the variety of tourist attractions and cultural offers. Its narrow streets, the colourful buildings of the three central squares, the house arches, the interior yards and mysterious tunnels, the old passages and motley roofs with their wide open “eyes” will make you feel the quaint charm of this city.
If you want some peace and quiet stop at one of the central cafes, visit the art galleries and museums or enjoy a peaceful moment in one of the historic monument churches. No visit to Sibiu is complete without a visit to the Council Tower or to the Evangelic Church Tower - the panoramic view of the city framed by the snow-capped Făgăraş Mountains is amazing!
The city was a European Capital of Culture in 2007 and in 2011the world famous Green Michelin Guide gave it 3 stars and called is - “Little Vienna - a city which must be visited!”
Each year, a rich cultural agenda brings to Sibiu the best of the world of spectacles, music, dance and traditions. There’s no way to get bored in Sibiu because it’s a pleasure to explore and discover one of the most famous cultural and historic centres of Romania!
