The gardens and orchards spread on our county’s heights are full of various fruit trees: apples, pears, sour cherries, cherries, walnuts, wax cherries and especially plums. Most likely the climate is very favourable for plum trees and their fruit are obviously very much loved by the people. Actually, the plum brandy is one of the local delicacies!
However, in autumn when the plums are ripe women prepare delicious plum dumplings. The recipe seems to come from the Austrians who took over these lands but it was soon adopted also by the Romanian and Hungarian women.
The dough is not difficult to prepare; it is made up of baked potatoes, flour, salt and eggs. The plums are wrapped in this dough and then boiled. When boiled, they are covered with fried bread crumbs and spread with powdered sugar.
