The village was first mentioned in a document in 1448 but the elderly still argue about the origin of its name and its history.
Some say that at the beginning it was inhabited by the Saxon colonists or even that they created it and called it Sachsenhausen after the name of a settlement from the Lower Rhine in their native lands. Others say that there’s no way there were any Saxons in Săsăuş which has always been a Romanian village.
The village hides among hilly slopes and forests and is made up of a handful of people, most of them old. Săsăuş is the birthplace of the Grecu painters and they say that the village church was the first one painted by the famous artists.
