Caldarea Sărăţii (The Salt Caldera), Piatra Prânzului (The Lunch Rock), Şaua Cleopatrei (Cleopatra’s Saddle), Acele Cleopatrei (Cleopatra’s Pins), Strunga Doamnei (Lady’s Ravine) — because it is easier —, Strunga Dracului (Devil’s Ravine) — because it is more difficult. The local shepherds, who used to spend their summers with the flock up in these mountains, have named these places with the strangest of names, many related to their everyday lives.
The Negoiu Summit? It does not need any further description, it is 2535 m high and it is the second highest summit in Romania so it is worth every effort! Setting out from the Negoiu Chalet at 1546 m on your way up you will cross a coniferous forest and gradually, as altitude increases, the vegetation will disappear; at the end of June, the Rhododendron kotschyi brings some colour to this landscape.
