The village of the Gauls… this was the village’s name until 1839. This name comes from the Gaellic population that was colonised here by the Romans.
The old houses with their shingle rooftops, porches and massive wooden gates sculpted with solar motives, the quaint narrow little streets, the traditional costumes, the customs and traditions preserved for so long, the tranquil, idyllic atmosphere… all of these have transformed Galeş in one of the most beautiful Romanian villages.
The people’s stories and their way of life may be discovered at the village’s ethnographic museum. However, if you wish to feel the village atmosphere go to the church; it brings together the entire village universe: spirituality, people, customs, architecture.
Did you know...?
At Galeş there still is an operational water mill which dates back at the beginning of the 19th century. You mustn’t miss the unique experience of seeing such an old hydraulic installation at work.
