The “one thousand hills” village, this is how Movile is called in the Saxon dialect - “Hundertbücheln”. And the name was not picked at random; the village is located in a truly stunning landscape, surrounded by wooded hills and hay meadows covered in a diversity of flowers and plants, streams and crystal clear springs.
In the 15th century, the old church was reinforced with defence walls and towers. The church was a shelter for all the inhabitants during the attacks and the defence towers were also used as storehouses for food supplies - the Lard Tower and the Plum Tower. The latter is noticeable by far among the hills due to his helmet-like roof with an elegant silhouette.
In the 16th century the locals build another wall closing the second precinct from the S tower to the N tower, all around the old curtain wall to the W.
It is believed that the belfry comes from an older church judging by the crack separating it from the nave wall.
