Lost among the gentle hills, Copşa Mare is the perfect setting to (re)discover a well-preserved Saxon architectural heritage.
The practice of crops and wine growing has led to the rapid development of Copşa Mare in the early 1300s. Its inhabitants did not want to be less worthy than the ones from Biertan and thus they decided to build a church at least as imposing as theirs. The construction works were initiated in the 14th century while the defence wall was added almost two centuries later.
Today, the church is a gothic architectural complex guarding over the town and its neighbourhoods.
