The museum was set up at Sibiu because the city has had a long and rich tradition of pharmaceutical activities. Also, Romania’s first pharmacy was inaugurated at Sibiu in 1494.
The museum looks like a medieval pharmacy with a laboratory and over 6600 pharmaceutical items and instruments.
Besides all these, the museum also displays a homeopathy collection.
Did you know...?
The building housing the museum was also the seat of one of Sibiu’s oldest pharmacies - chronologically the third one opened around the year 1600 and named At the Black Bear’s.
Between 1777-1779 Sibiu was the home of Samuel Hahnemann, the founder of homeopathy.
