As soon as you get to the centre of Jina, you will see a tourist sign inviting you to visit the Shepherds’ Museum. Passing by the historic monument church, the road will take you through the narrow streets of the commune to the house at no. 428. It is a modest house with hardworking people but it hosts a very special museum.
Mrs Ileana Morariu is the owner of the museum. She was born in Jina and she taught at the village school. She loves her birth village very much and she has always had a dream: to open a museum and to pass on to others a piece of Jina’s life as it used to be.
In the last couple of years Mrs Morariu collected 1800 traditional items; she arranged them in a room with a veranda in her own house and in the former stable which she redecorated into an exhibition hall. Each item from Mrs Morariu’s collection has its own story; objects from the sheepfold, traditional costumes, house objects or decorative items were all donated by the villagers who had used them their whole life after having, in their turn, inherited them from their grandparents.
The museum is a trip back in time, a life story which is much more delightful when told by Mrs Morariu herself.
