The church is also named St. Oprea the Martyr after a local from Sălişte who, together with other brave people from the village, went all the way to Vienna to ask Empress Maria Teresa for tolerance towards the Orthodox religion. In spite of their efforts, they could not persuade the authorities and died in the Austrian prisons persecuted for having defended their ancestors’ faith.
The church from Sălişte was built in the 18th century in a byzantine style, except for the steeple tower and the roof built after the model of the Saxon churches.
